On Thursday, 27 October 2011, Michael delivered a lecture on “Inhabiting Truth” to the Kinsale Peace Project in the Bluehaven Hotel, Pearse Street, Kinsale, Co. Cork, at 8.00pm. He drew on his experiences as a broadcaster, a psychoanalyst, and writer to illustrate his talk.

On Friday, 28 October 2011, at the Baffle Poetry Festival in Loughrea, Co. Galway, Michael was interviewed in depth by broadcaster Liam Nolan about “At Five in the Afternoon”, his writing, and in particular, his poetry. He read sections from his memoir, and performed some poems from his new book “The House of Pure Being” which is nearing completion. This conversation took place in the Loughrea Library, Church Street, at 8.00pm.

On Sunday, 30 October 2011, Michael launched the 5th edition of the Kilkelly / Kilmovee Magazine in the Ireland West Airport, Knock Co. Mayo from 7.00 - 10.00pm.

Oct 28, 2010: At Five in the Afternoon was been shortlisted for the Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards in two categories: the Argosy Irish Non-Fiction Book of the Year, and also RTE Radio 1 The John Murray Show Listener's Choice Award. Readers can vote for the book you’d like to see win in each category at www.irishbookawards.ie, and the winners were announced on Thursday, November 25, at the Irish Book Awards Gala Dinner in Dublin's Mansion House.

On Sunday, November 14, at 3.30pm, Michael was Guest Speaker at the Ecumenical Service in Christchurch Cathedral for the Irish Cancer Society.

On Tuesday Nov. 9 at 8.00pm Michael was guest speaker at an Information Evening for Mayo Cancer Support in Day’s Hotel, Castlebar, Co. Mayo.

On Thursday Nov. 4 at 8.00pm, Michael was guest speaker at the Laois Hospice foundation AGM in the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise.

On Friday Oct. 15 at 1.00pm Michael was reading from “At Five in the Afternoon” in Dublin’s Central Library, the Ilac Centre.

On Wednesday Sept. 29 at 8.00pm in Dublin’s National Concert Hall, Michael, Eileen Dunne, Eamonn Lawlor and Emer O’Kelly gave “At Five in the Afternoon – A Concert Reading”

On Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 4.00pm Michael was interviewed by Maura Derrane on her new daytime show, RTE television’s Four Live.

On Wednesday Sept. 15 at 7.00pm in the Irish Writer’s Centre on Dublin’s Parnell Square, Michael was interviewed by Eamonn Lawlor, and they read from “At Five in the Afternoon”.

On Wednesday, 29 September, “At Five in the Afternoon – A Concert Reading” was given in the National Concert Hall by Michael and his friends, Eileen Dunne (RTE), Eamonn Lawlor (Lyric FM) and Emer O’Kelly (Sunday Independent). The J.S. Bach music from the book was sung by the Goethe Institut Choir, accompanied by the Orchestra of St. Cecilia, under the direction of John Dexter. This Concert Reading is for the benefit of the Irish Cancer Society.

On Friday, April 30, at 8.00pm, Michael addressed the issue of “Positive Mental Health in Challenging Times” at a meeting in the Downhill Hotel, Foxford Road, Ballina, Co. Mayo.

On Wednesday, April 21, Michael read from “At Five in the Afternoon” in Blanchardstown Library, Civic Centre, Blanchardstown Centre, Fingal, at 7.00pm., and the reading was followed by a discussion. All are welcome.

Mar.1: At Five in the Afternoon has sold almost 7,000 copies since the book launches in Dublin and Castlebar last September: 450 hard back and 6, 320 soft back copies, and it continues to sell. Because of this success, the publisher has decided to bring out a third edition of the book, which has been in the shops from May 4.

On Thursday, 28 January 2010, Michael was interviewed on Talk Radio Europe, which broadcasts to the English speaking communities of the Costa del Sol in Spain. He was featured on the mid-afternoon Hannah Murray Book Show.

On Monday, 21 December, At Five in the Afternoon came 4th in the RTE Liveline Book of the Year 2009, as voted for by the listeners.

On Friday, December 4, Michael performed the official opening of the new Blessington Bookstore from 6.30 onwards in Blessington, Co. Wicklow. On Saturday, December 5, Michael signed copies of his book at the RDS Craft Fair in Dublin.

On 26 November, Michael was in Tuam Co. Galway to participate in a Men's Health Public Information evening sponsored by Tuam Cancer Care, in the Ard Ri Hotel at 8.00pm. Before that, Michael signed copies of his book in Eason, The Square, Tuam at 4.00pm.

On Wednesday, November 18, Michael signed copies of his book at The Village Bookstore, Townyard Lane, Malahide in Dublin at 6.30 pm.

On Saturday 31 October, Michael was in Cork for a signing at Eason in Patrick Street at 1.00pm, and at Eason in the Mahon Point Shopping Centre at 3.00pm.

Book Launch: At Five in the Afternoon was officially launched in Dublin by Emer O'Kelly (Sunday Independent), Eamonn Lawlor (Lyric FM) and Eileen Dunne (RTE) on Wednesday 16th September at Jen Kelly Design, 50 North Great Georges Street.

At Five in the Afternoon waslaunched in Castlebar by Enda Kenny,TD on Friday 18th. September at Mayo County Library, the Mall at 8 pm.

Michael signed copies of his book in County Mayo on Saturday, 26 September, at McLoughlin's bookshop in Westport at 12.00 noon, at Eason's, Main Street Castlebar at 2.00pm, and at Eason's, Tone Street, Ballina, at 4.00pm.

On Saturday 17 October, Michael signed copies of his book in Galway at Eason of Shop Street at 1.00pm, and in Ennis Co. Clare at the Ennis Bookshop in Abbey Street at 4.00pm.

On Saturday 24 October, Michael was in Limerick to sign copies of his book at Eason in O'Connell Street at 12.00 noon, and later that day in Newbridge Co. Kildare at Eason in the White Water Shopping centre at 4.00pm.
